| To all our valued customers | |||
| We have been
receiving Many reports of emails from us
about "outlook" or "E-mail setting updates", "Email
account deactivated" ETC. We have also had numerous reports of Emails originating
from us that are actually fake Emails with forged info in them including
the from address. Some of
these messages contain a link to sites that will infect your computer
with Trojan horse programs, viruses and other malware. Many emails
with "login update" subject line requests such as "your facebook login needs
to be updated" are fake and take you to a site that infects your computer or
download malware to it upon clicking the link in the message. We have also
received reports of many emails from various package/mail carriers such as
UPS, DHL, FEDEX, and USPS that say
a package can't be delivered. These usually have an attachment often in a
zip file that is purported to be an invoice. It is actually one of many
possible Malwares/Trojans including the "windows security console" Trojan.
There have been some reports of fake emails from the IRS with various
subject lines such as "taxes owed" or "taxes overpaid" that are fake as
well. " These fake emails contain Trojans, Viruses, and/or scam/phishing links. The malware programs actually pick up the "@........etc." from your Email address and then format their scam message to appear as though it comes from your E-mail provider as well as other people including anyone in your address book. Some of the links in these emails will take you to a fake site that infects your computer or tries to get you to enter your personal info for identity theft purposes. Some of these emails will install fake antivirus software that will show fake infections in your computer and ask for a fee to register or install the removal software. When you give them your payment/credit info, Instead of removing the infections which were fake to begin with, they steal your identity and empty your accounts. Don't give them that chance. Don't open these emails or attachments, JUST DELETE THEM. Full technical details on these and many other Malwares, Trojans, and Viruses can be found at www.symantec.com as well as on Google. Free downloadable fix tools and instructions for removing these malwares are also available. On www.symantec.com click on "security response" then scroll down to "virus encyclopedia" and click on it. Click on the virus/malware name in the list that appears. I will continue to update this area with more info as soon as it becomes available.
